Bert & Ronda Swerer

Both Bert and Ronda are long time East Bay residents. Bert was born and raised in Berkeley and Ronda in El Sobrante.  They now reside in nearby San Pablo.

Bert’s interest in square dancing started in 1966 while attending a class in Albany.  A couple of years later, after attending a callers class, he started calling and teaching.  During the next 45 years he has been the caller for over 10 clubs and taught an average of two beginner classes each year.  He is a past president and present treasurer of the Square Dance Caller’s Association of Northern California and an accredited member of Callerlab.

Ronda met Bert while she was attending his beginner class in 1973 and a few years later they were married. They will celebrate their 35th anniversary in November 2012.  What started as a hobby for each of them has become their lifestyle.  Bert is retired from Hilton Audio Products (a company that makes and sells square dance sound systems). Ronda worked at Berkely Pump Company for 7 years before working full time for BRS Square Dance Records and Engraving. Ronda with Bert own and operate BRS Square Dance Records & Engraving which they started in 1982.  Bert presently calls for the Twin City Steppers and Rossmoor Squares. He also teaches a series of Saturday morning classes for Martinez Adult Education and does square dance parties for various groups.
